Daily tasks
Purpose
So RAs know what is expected of them each shift!
Procedure
At the beginning of your shift
- Clock-in on the iPad
- If you are working the opening shift, do the opening checklist
- Check the lab calendar and whiteboard to see whats on your schedule today
- Make sure the whiteboard reflects the day’s calendar and priorities accurately
- Send a message to the #lab-help channel to let the lab know what you are available for today
Throughout your shift
- If you have participants scheduled:
- Prep your materials for running participants (grab an iPad, make sure it’s charged, etc.)
- Login to the lab database (Retool) on the purple or blue iPads (make sure it’s through your account!)
- Run your participant(s) and make sure records are up to date
- Check and respond to emails in the lab email, and update records in database accordingly
- Check the RA Tasks canvas in the #lab-help channel on Slack to see if anything has either been assigned to you or there is a task that you can take over
- Also look out for anyone reaching out to you on the #lab-help channel for some help on a task
- Send a study reminder to participants if they are scheduled for the next day!
- In the database:
Participant's profile
> Email
> Study reminder
- You’ll need to provide the participant’s study date and time as well as the Zoom link (both can be found in Google Calender or Cal.com confirmation email for the participant(s))
- Send 10 recruitment emails! (our lab depends on families participating!!!)
- If you encounter any bugs in the database (or have a feature request), add it to the #lab-help channel on Slack
- Make sure to spend time on the lab’s priorities for the day
At the end of your shift
- Put a summary of your work for the day on Slack (#RA-worklog channel)
- If this is your last shift of the week, submit your hours on Workday (so you can get paid!)
- If you are working the closing shift, do the closing checklist
- Clock-out on the iPad
- If it is the last shift of the week, charge the iPad!
FAQs
- What should I say when I let people know my availability on #lab-help at the beginning of my shift?
Something like: “Hi team! I’m working the 10a-4p shift today. I have 3 participants scheduled in X study, so I’ll have a few hours to pickup odd jobs! Let me know here if you need help with anything today”
- How do I submit my hours on Workday?
Follow this tip sheet. If you still need help, reach out to a fellow RA.
- What happens if I forget to submit my hours on Workday?
There is a gap in you payment! You won’t get paid until the following week. So don’t forget this step!
