Guide to childlanglab

Run kids

Procedure

  1. Find kids that match the study’s criteria in our lab’s database
  2. Send a welcome/eligible email with the scheduling link (Profile > Email > Welcome eligible)
    • If they sign-up:
      • Make sure they received a confirmation email from the scheduling platform that includes the correct personalized Zoom link (these can be double checked by logging into Zoom and viewing the upcoming meetings)
      • Add them to the experiment’s subject log/participant tracker
      • Send them a study confirmation through the database (Profile > Email > Study confirmation)
        • For this you’ll need the date and time of their study slot and the Zoom link, both of which you’ll be able to see in their Cal.com confirmation email or on the lab’s Google Calendar
      • Send a consent form from Hello Sign (you can put yourself as the researcher and sign it)
    • On the day before the study:
      • Send a study reminder email that includes the correct Zoom link by using the template in the database (Profile > Email > Study reminder)
    • On the day of the study:
      • Make sure you have the signed consent form and that it is uploaded to the database (Profile > Consents > Add New Consent)
        • Save the consent form with a unique name (example: {Studyname}_ Consent_{DateofStudy}_{TimeOfStudy} ) before uploading it to the database
      • We run participants through study links that we generate in our database! Try generating the study link(s) for participants ahead of time (see how under FAQs)
    • Running the participant (on lab device):
      • Introduce yourself
      • If the parent has not signed the consent form yet, politely remind them to do so
        • You can have Hello Sign open on the Desktop (if you are using the IPad), so you can confirm that the consent form has come through before starting the study
      • Make sure the session is being recorded to the cloud
        • If not, you can say: “Just wanted to let you know that we will need to record this session for coding purposes. It will be on our highly protected server and only accessible to researchers on our team. Would that be alright with you?”
      • Run study using link from database
        • You will send the link in the Zoom chat and ask that they share their screen with sound or, you will open the link on your end and share screen with participant (with sound!)
      • Thank the family and tell them you will send an Amazon claim code shortly
    • After the study:
      • In the database: On the experiment page, feel free to include comments under “Notes” if you can (ex. Did a great job! Really paid attention!, etc.)
      • Send family a thank you email with the Amazon claim code
      • Upload Consent form to the database (if haven’t already)
      • Upload Zoom recording to the database and Box folder
      • Update the study’s participant tracking/subject log sheet
