Create voice stims with Natural Reader

Purpose

To provide instructions for creating voice stimuli with Natural Reader

Procedure

  1. Login to Natural Reader with Google (childlanglab@sas.upenn.edu)
  2. Click on Add and select Text
  3. Create a file name and input text for your voice stim into the text box (this will be your first voice stim)
  4. Once you select Create New, you will generate a folder for your voice stim audio files
  5. Click on Add New Text to add more voice stims to the folder
  6. Make sure the selected voice and speed for each voice stim are correct
  7. Select Download Audio
  8. Choose how to export the audio
    • Usually: MP3, All, Separated audio files (zip) and Audio files

FAQs

  1. Login is not working for me, what’s up?

    Make sure you are logging in to the commercial version of Natural Reader! That’s our license. If it’s still not working, ask the lab manager if we need to renew our subscription.

  2. If I forgot to set the correct voice for my voice stims, do I have to manually change each one?

    No, you don’t! You can change voice settings for multiple files by selecting the box of files you want to modify and then changing the voice on any one of the stims. You may also do this to all the files in the folder by checking off the box at the very top of the list, which should then select each file.

  3. What if I need to change the speed of more than one audio file?

    You can modify the speed by selecting files needing modification and changing the speed setting (which can be found at the top of the page).
