Compress files with Handbrake

Purpose

To provide instructions for compressing video files using the Handbrake application.

Procedure

  1. If you do not have Handbrake downloaded on the computer, go to their website and click on Download
  2. After downloading, open Handbrake on the computer
  3. You’ll be prompted to select a video file to compress; once the file opens in the Handbrake tab:
    • Go to “Preset” and click on the drop down menu
    • Hover over “Web” and click on the “Social 25 MB 5 Minutes 360p60” option
    • Rename the video where it says “Save As” to the desired file name
      • Just add compressed to the original name of the file (ex. compressed-natural-reader-file)
    • Click the green “Start” button at the top of the tab to encode the file.
      • This will begin encoding the video, which should only take a second
  4. Once the video encodes and downloads, upload it to a designated Google Drive folder
  5. To compress more files, click the “Open Source” button in the top left corner
  6. Refer back to step 3 and repeat
